Live Your Life Without Glasses or Contacts

Refractive Surgery

At Cornea & Cataract Consultants of Arizona, we understand that clear vision is essential for your quality of life. That’s why we offer a range of advanced refractive surgery options to correct various vision problems. Our experienced team is dedicated to helping you achieve optimal vision and regain your freedom from glasses or contact lenses. Our refractive surgeons, Dr. Robert Gross and Dr. Scott Vadala have advanced fellowship training in refractive surgery. We offer state-of-the-art laser surgery and intraocular surgical options to improve your vision.

LASIK is the most well-known refractive surgery that uses a laser to reshape the cornea, correcting nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. This outpatient procedure is quick and virtually painless, with minimal downtime. Many patients experience improved vision immediately or within a few days after surgery.

PRK is a laser eye surgery option similar to LASIK that reshapes the cornea to correct vision problems. Unlike LASIK, PRK does not involve creating a corneal flap but instead removes the outer layer of the cornea before reshaping it with a laser. PRK may be recommended for patients with thin corneas or other factors that make LASIK unsuitable.

EVO ICL is an advanced vision correction option for patients with moderate to severe nearsightedness or astigmatism. Unlike LASIK and PRK, which reshape the cornea, EVO ICL involves implanting a lens inside the eye, providing excellent visual outcomes with minimal risk of dry eye syndrome.

Intacs

Intacs are small, thin inserts placed in the cornea to correct mild to moderate nearsightedness or astigmatism. This procedure can improve vision and reduce the need for glasses or contact lenses, particularly for patients who are not suitable candidates for laser eye surgery.

Refractive Lens Exchange, also known as lens replacement surgery or clear lens exchange, involves removing the eye’s natural lens and replacing it with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) to correct refractive errors. RLE is an excellent option for patients with presbyopia or significant refractive errors who may not benefit from LASIK or other laser procedures.

Choosing the Right Procedure

The best refractive surgery option for you depends on various factors, including your age, the health of your eyes, the severity of your refractive error, and your lifestyle needs. During your comprehensive eye evaluation, our experienced ophthalmologists will assess your candidacy for each procedure and recommend the most suitable option for your individual needs.

Below are some requirements each patient must meet to qualify:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Stable vision prescription for at least one year
  • Realistic expectations about the outcomes of refractive surgery
  • Absence of certain eye conditions or diseases, such as glaucoma or cataracts
